There are approximately 200 album covers painted by "Harvey" on Savoy and its
subsidiaries, Gospel, Regent and Sharp. However, no one is exactly sure who Harvey was or
what became of his paintings that were used for the album covers. Two widespread theories
are 1) that he was a recluse in New York City, and 2) that he was actually Herman
Lubinsky, the original owner of Savoy Records. Most of the covers were for gospel albums,
but he also did some secular covers; many would argue those were his best.
