We know that Phil Spector was a neurotic R&R genius, who wrote and produced a slew of early rock classics. He was famous for his "wall of sound" productions and for championing the girl group sound with the Crystals, Ronettes and Darlene Love. Also, his R&R Christmas album is still unsurpassed fifty years after its release. Unfortunately his later years were shaky, culminating with him being jailed on murder charges.

Ike & Tina Turner's "River Deep Mountain High," Philles PHLP 4010, was withdrawn when the title song failed to chart. Only a few copies were pressed and there never was an album jacket. Likewise Philles PHLP 100 was made as a promo item for DJs and it didn't have a jacket either. I took the liberty to include Phil Spector's first band, "The Teddy Bears," who had a huge hit with "To Know Him Is to Love Him," which was what Phil's mom often said about her late husband.
