Soul music is a unique American art form, but it quickly became popular around the world. You can hear how soul influenced African music, Reggae music and even some Asian musics. Often it was the American G.I.s. stationed overseas who were responsible for spreading the sounds. For this gallery, I focused on Euro and Canadian artists who were actually imitating and covering American soul. Some of the artists were local, but others are expatriated Afro-Americans, who seemed to feel they could do better for themselves by bringing soul music to the hinterlands.
