Shown below are the LPs that collectors think are the essential R&B and jazz albums on the King label and its affiliates: Federal, Deluxe and Audio Lab. Of course King was also a major player in the gospel, C&W, and vocal fields, but we're mainly covering R&B for this gallery. There are two albums that aren't shown that should be: 295-94 Billy Ward & His Dominos (10" LP) and 539 Roland Kirk - Triple Threat. There are purportedly also Federal versions of 559 Billy Ward & His Dominos - Featuring Clyde McPhatter, and 581 The Midnighters Greatest Hits Vol. 2. Thanks to all my collector friends for contributing to this gallery.

Syd Nathan was the crusty owner of King Records. Here's his hilarious and rambling "how we do things" communique to his field staff from 1962. (Thanks to label exec. Tommy Noonan via Jeff Gold)

Wouldn't you know it, there was also a QUEEN label! It too was a King affiliate and I think it was only used for a few 78 releases.
